So close…

It’s hard to believe that the due date is almost here. This week. Two days. The day after tomorrow.

Of course, it might be tomorrow. It might be next Monday. Things we keep hearing now are “first babies are usually on time or late,” and “it could be any minute!”

Right now, between the size of the baby and the fact that my wife’s insurance turns into a pumpkin on October 1st, it’s likely if he doesn’t come on his own by the 26th or so, we’ll be looking to induce. She very much wants to do everything naturally, but we’ve both read and gone to classes and heard enough of other people’s experiences to know that what we want isn’t necessarily what we’ll get.

In the end, a healthy, red-faced screaming little poop machine is all we really want.

Week 36 Ultrasound

No photos this time – they gave us some but there’s not much identifiable to see – not much room in there for the little guy at this stage, so the images are just jumbles. It makes sense to see it in motion, but as snapshots… meh.

He’s still trending large. 8lb 5oz by their estimates (though I swear, with my completely untrained eye it looked like she was being generous with the skull and abdomen measurements). They’re not too concerned, but they say that the maternity ward nurses and docs are going to be observing the progress of labor very closely.

You know, because we’re going to be lounging around and not playing it any attention at all.

Nursery: Stage 1

Nursery: Stage 1

Well, the bare bones of the nursery is complete; the cleaning, the painting, the mural, some art on the walls and the main pieces of furniture.

The dog seems to like it, at least.

Week 32 Ultrasound

Week 32 Ultrasound

This was a big event, as we had both sets of parents join us for the ultrasound this week. It was a little chaotic in the room, I think the tech was a little thrown off by the grandmothers-to-be chattering over her shoulder, and the doctor came in a chatted through half of it, not letting my wife really see a whole lot.

But what does she need to see, right? It’s inside of her. She’s hogging all the real quality time.

From their estimated measurements, the baby appears to be on the large size. 5lbs 8oz, and in theory he will double in size before he’s born. That’d be an 11lb baby, for the mathetically challenged. They want us back for one more ultrasound to check up on this. Too big could be a problem.

I of course tried to assuage my wife by telling her I read where ultrasound weight estimates can be up to 1.5 – 2lbs off – he might only be 3 and a half or four pounds.

“Or he could be seven and half!” she replied.

Clearly, this was a poor tactic.
