Home

Here we are, back home again. We actually got in yesterday afternoon, but getting (re)settled and into a semblance of schedule has taken a while.

Cooper is doing great – both the dog and cat are very interested in him but so far they are keeping their distance. Coop hasn’t really noticed either of them, but at least there’s no sign of allergies.

It looks like he’s already gaining some weight back now, as Chris is producing more and more milk. He still tends to fall asleep while feeding, which is a little frustrating, but we’re all getting the hang of this.

Speaking of which, it’s boob time for the little guy. I should have a number of photos to upload in my next update. Say tuned.

Day 2 Update

Day 2 Update

Cooper slept 6 1/2 hours last night.

I’m going to go ahead and claim that if he winds up being a champ sleeper, he gets it from me.

No big news to report from the second day. Coop was a little more active overall, but when he went to sleep, he really zonked out. We had two waves of visitors and he pretty much slept through them both. And when he does get fussy, we’re beginning to figure out which sounds and cries are which. Although most often he’s hungry.

Eye and hearing tests were passed with flying colors, weight loss has been normal (under 10lbs now), and pending one other father-wince-inducing procedure, we’re almost done here.

Chris is likewise doing great, up and around more and more, and the nine hundred and forty-three people who have been in to check her incision are very pleased by the healing. Without any other developments, looks like we’ll be heading home this afternoon.

Day 1 Update

I’m not intending on making daily posts (and doubt I could keep up, even I wanted to), but for the first day? Seems appropriate.

Coper is officially 24 hours old as of seven minutes ago. So far everything’s going very well. His first pediatrician visit went great, he’s been eating and sleeping and pooping (and pooping, and pooping) like a champ, and seems very healthy and content overall. He’s also lost about 4oz of weight, which is expected. I’m calling it poop weight.

There are some other tests and procedures coming up today, including a hearing test and an eye exam. He’s had his eyes open a lot more this morning already, and even though I know he can’t really see much yet, it sure seems like he’s looking around and scrutinizing things already. There’s also checking on his umbilical stump, another weigh-in, and some other other stuff, so we’re not out of the proverbial woods yet, but so far so good.

Chris seems to be doing great with c-section recovery, she’s already walking around (albeit slowly) and off the catheter. The nurses indicate that if she keeps on like this we’ll be sent home tomorrow.

And now his birth certificate form has been delivered, which I’m oddly excited to fill out. Enough blogging for now, back to baby business.

Okay, wow.

Okay, wow.

This is just a very quick post to announce a little thing that happened this morning.

Cooper Maxwell Camp was born via c-section at 7:42am. He weighed 10lbs 5.5oz (!) and measured 20 3/8″.

All news is good. Baby and mother are resting comfortably, perhaps getting in some sleep.

Major thanks to all the staff at St. Joseph’s for everything.
